The Scars I Choose Not To Hate

Life introduces us to countless souls along its winding path - parents, family, friends, and strangers who briefly cross our horizons. Some drift by like passing clouds, fading with the changing seasons, while others leave footprints upon our hearts that time itself struggles to erase.

When it comes to the people who shape us, their impact often falls into two kinds. There are those who bring out the light within us, standing beside us through life's changing tides. Then there are those who awaken our wounds, not to destroy us, but perhaps to prepare us for the storms yet to come.

Some hurt us through betrayal, harsh words, indifference, or cruelty- especially when all we offered was sincerity. We may find a thousand reasons to resent them, yet deep within, hatred never quite takes root. For often, those who cause pain are not monsters in disguise; they are wounded souls carrying battles we cannot see. In their own suffering, they seek relief in the wrong places, passing their hurt onto others instead of healing it within themselves.

I can only hope that one day they find peace, that harmony embraces the parts of them that remain at war.

Many of these people were once dear to us. They were the keepers of our secrets, the witnesses to our laughter, the names we spoke with affection. Misunderstandings and differences are woven everywhere and sometimes we exhaust ourselves giving chance after chance, trying to breathe life back into a bond that is slowly slipping away.

Yet there comes a moment when disrespect speaks louder than words. A moment when you realize that no matter how fiercely you tried, some bridges were never meant to be crossed alone.

And still, despite the hurt, I find myself unable to hate them. Somewhere within me, a soft corner remains—a quiet place where forgiveness may someday bloom. But the memories of the disrespect, the wounds, the trauma linger like echoes in an empty room.

I do not seek revenge. I may even forgive.

Yet some scars do not disappear with forgiveness.

They simply become a part of who we are.

"I can forgive the person, but the wound continues to whisper lessons my heart never asked to learn."
